For immediate release Hialeah, FL, January 23- Sent off as the longest shot in a field of ten, Jewels St Patrick went from maiden to stakes winner in less than three weeks posting an upset in today’s featured race at Hialeah Park, the $20,000 added Sparkling Tip Stakes for three-year-olds, run over a fast track on a mostly cloudy afternoon. The Louisiana-bred gelding by First Down Jewel beat post-time favorite Seaside by a half length while returning a $60.00 win mutuel. Jess Wanna Fly finished another neck behind in third. Trained by Gene Stephens, who then sent out the winner of the day’s final race, Jewels St Patrick was an 11-1 shot when he broke his maiden in his fourth career start here January 5, but remained perfect from two starts at 350 yards with today’s win, covering the distance in 17.712 under jockey Victor Olivo, who also notched a riding double. Jewels St Patrick races for owner/breeder Chester Kight and collected $13,500 in winnings with the added purse money. Live American Quarter Horse racing resumes Sunday at Hialeah Park and takes place four days a week, Saturday through Tuesday, through February 2. In coordination with Miami-Dade County Hialeah Park is collecting non-perishable food items, bottled water, gloves, surgical masks and camping tents to donate to the victims of the disaster in Haiti. Items can be dropped off at the track near the valet parking area.
