For immediate release Hialeah, FL, February 2- Fresh off a victory in the City of Hialeah Stakes on December 28, the five-year-old Texas-bred mare Wowzer Won finished with a flourish and ran down six rivals to capture today’s featured event at Hialeah Park, the $75,000 guaranteed Hialeah Invitational Championship, run over a sloppy track after a brief but considerable mid-card rainstorm less than an hour prior to post. Owned by breeder Kathleen Matey, Wowzer Won paid $6.40 to win as the second betting choice under jockey Rodrigo Vallejo for trainer Judd Kearl. She ran 440 yards in 21.382 and beat runner-up Mbn Finest Hour by three quarters of a length, winning for the eighth time in 27 career starts and boosting her career earnings just under $150,000. Materialist, the even money favorite, ran loose just before the start and finished last. St Pats First and Feature Jess Rockin were stakes scratches and Dm Shatanooga was a late scratch after becoming fractious in the gate. A special day of live American Quarter Horse at Hialeah Park has been installed for tomorrow afternoon, February 3, to make up for the cancellation of racing here yesterday due to inclement weather. There will be a mandatory payout of the Big Money Super Six pool, guaranteed to be at least $5,000, due to tomorrow being closing day. Gates open at 1 p.m. and first post is 2:05.
